I pretty much liked all of the characters, especially some of the secondary characters. The last quarter of the book was back to being hooked with some surprises that I never expected and then left open for the rest of the series which I am very much looking forward to reading. Most of the story was getting to know about the powers that they all have and learning how to use them which I think was the reason why it dragged as it felt repetitive. I felt the romance side of the story was lacking and I didn't quite believe in the feelings plus I am a little sick of love triangles at the minute which this story has. When I first started Mortal Obligation I was hooked and I couldn't wait to see what on earth was going to happen next, however, I felt it dragged a bit in the middle.

Mortal Obligation is unique in that I haven't read a paranormal book like it which was a nice change but there was other parts of the story that was what every YA book involves.

I do like the rest of the cover with the use of colours makes it stand out plus I like that it looks like the location used in the actual book. I'm not a huge fan of this cover as although the girl in the cover reminds me of Ree the girl used looks fake she looks as though Photoshop was used a lot here. I've been putting this one off for a while now although I don't know why as I love Nichole Chase's work. I was kept interested throughout the book and I would enjoy reading what comes next. All in all this was a great debut novel from a new author. They were mostly like COOL bring it on, I have vampire teeth hahah (very much paraphrased they didn't really sound like that) when I felt they should have been a bit freaked out at what was happening. The biggest complaint I had about the book is the ease that which Ree and her friends believed and accepted all the God gifts and roles they are to play in Ree's Destiny. I enjoyed the love triangle, I feel both of the romantic interests have enough positive and negative things going for them to make things interesting and it added some great jealousy moments to the book. There was some pretty good twists at the end that I in no way saw coming. The action and training of the teens was well written and engaging. MORTAL OBLIGATION had a great pace to it. They are all extremely loyal to each other from the beginning. Ree and her friends had a great mix of personalities. I don't know why it intrigues me so much but it does and I enjoy reading the interpretations of the different myths that authors have for their characters and stories. I love when a new book that incorporates the Gods and their gifts comes out.
